Guidelines for Hall of Fame Eligibility

Eligibility

  1. Induction in the Hall of Fame is open to athletes, coaches and contributors (officials, administrators, and volunteers) who have demonstrated excellence in veteran fencing.
  2. Nominees must have significantly contributed to the growth and development of Veteran fencing, including their dedication to the highest ideals of competition.
  3. Athlete nominees must have achieved significant success in Veteran national and international competitions. Athletes may be nominated as individuals or as members of teams.
  4. Coach nominees must have achieved significant success in Veteran international or national competitions over a sustained period.
  5. Officials must have shown significant dedication to Veteran Fencing over a sustained period.
  6. Contributors nominees may be active or inactive at the time of their nomination. Persons nominated as contributors must have demonstrated that they have significantly contributed to the development and promotion of Veteran Fencing over a sustained period.
  7. Nominees must have held Canadian citizenship or Canadian residency throughout their careers.
  8. Deceased athletes, coaches, officials and contributors are eligible for consideration for the “In Memoriam” category.

Nomination

  1. Nominations will be annually.
  2. A Club, Branch, or individual can submit nominations in each athlete/team, coach, official, and contributors categories, given they possess a valid membership and are in good standing with the CFF.
  3. Nominees will be considered for induction in the year nominated.
  4. If a nominee is not selected for induction within three years, the nomination will become inactive and would have to be resubmitted after four years.
  5. Documentation must accompany each nomination, a maximum of two pages.
  6. Deceased athletes, coaches, officials and contributors are eligible for consideration for the “In Memoriam” category.

Selection

  1. The Veteran Committee of the Canadian Fencing Federation will appoint a Selection Committee. This committee will assess proposed inductees, considering the significance and breadth of their achievements, their commitment to Veteran fencing, the consistency of their performance, and personal attributes aligning with the values of the Canadian Fencing Federation both on and off the strip.
  2. A maximum of three Athlete nominees, three “In Memoriam” nominees, one Coach and one Contributors nominee will be selected annually for induction into the Hall of Fame.
  3. The Selection Committee will thoroughly review all nominations before presenting them to the Veteran Committee for their ultimate decision.
  4. The Selection Committee and the Veteran Committee are not eligible to nominate.
  5. The deadline for nominations in any calendar year shall be February 15th

Removal from the Hall of Fame

The Canadian Fencing Federation may recommend the removal of a fencer from the Veteran Fencing Hall of Fame. This recommendation will rely on evidence and adhere to the principle of fairness. It will only be made after the Federation has thoroughly investigated the relevant facts pertaining to the case in question..

The Veteran Hall of Fame Selection Committee shall consider the removal of a person;

  1. The person has been convicted of a criminal offence
  2. The individual’s behaviour represents a notable deviation from widely accepted norms of public conduct and the core values upheld by the Canadian Fencing Federation. Such behaviour may compromise the credibility, integrity, or pertinence of the Veteran Hall of Fame.
  3. The person has been officially sanctioned.

Removal of a person from the Veteran Hall of Fame is at the discretion of the Veteran Committee and the Disciplinary Committee of the Canadian Fencing Federation.

All representations will be in writing.
